2017 College Scholarships

The Rotary Club gave out four college scholarships to Lecanto High School Students.
One Rotary District matching grant scholarship had been given out early in the
2016/2017 year. One of the students, Ajay Patel will also receive a Rotary District .
matching grant scholarship. The students in the pictures with President

RYE Presentation

Our Rotary Youth Exchange(RYE) student made his presentation March 29, 2017.
David Ting had a very good video on his country, Taiwan. He told how it was very
different than Citrus County. He lives on the 15th floor of a high rise in a large
crowded city. Transportation is public, cars, mopeds and motorcycles. Non-cars
ride in separate lanes from cars. Traffic is always busy. Taiwan is an island with
almost 24 million people. Everyone has english is school. He was surprised that
american students have a choice of subjects. In Taiwan he has no choice.

Major Doner Award

The club did something that doesn’t happen often. A major doner award was
made to Steve Martin and his wife, Barbara. Eloy Nunez, DG – Nominee
made the award to Steve and Barbara. They were very happy to receive the
award at our breakfast meeting.

Winner at Strawberry Festival

Real Winner was Boys & Girls Club

Members of the Rotary Club were at the Strawberry Festival to raise money for the
Beverly Hills Boys & Girls Club. The funds are for helping to pay for a cover on the
back of Boys & Girls Club building to shield the kids from the hot sun when outside.
Gwendolyn Wheeler was the excited winner of the 50/50 raffle and the kids this
summer will be a lot more comfortable to be outside doing activities under the cover.
